The SKS was first produced in the Soviet Union and later in China, where it was known as the Type 56. Its design was meant to bridge the gap between bolt-action rifles and more modern assault rifles. The weapon featured a gas-operated system, a 10-round detachable magazine, and was chambered in 7.62x39mm, a cartridge effective for hunting and military applications.
