The movie begins with Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) struggling to balance his job as a museum night guard with his new responsibilities as a single father. The tablet of Thutmose, which has kept the museum's exhibits alive at night, is losing its magic. To save the tablet and the exhibits, Larry, along with his friends Ahkmenrah (Rami Malek), Jedediah (Owen Wilson), and Attila (Patrick Gallagher), embark on a quest to find the magical amulet of Theodosia.
