The movie centers around Axel Foley (Steve Guttenberg), a young and enthusiastic police officer from Detroit who enrolls in the Police Academy to become a police officer. Axel joins a class of misfits, including Moses Hightower (Michael Winslow), a gentle giant; Eugene Tackleberry (David Spade), a rugged and macho recruit; and Larvell Jones (Art Metrano), a rough-around-the-edges trainee. Under the watchful eye of Commandant Lassard (George Gaynes), the recruits navigate a series of hilarious challenges and mishaps as they attempt to complete their training.
