The story follows Raghupathi (played by Siddharth Venugopal), a quiet, unemployed engineering graduate living in Tirunelveli. His life changes when he meets Madhumitha (Tamannaah), a naive and lively girl whose presence brings him joy. While the two fall in love and get engaged, Madhumitha's parents suddenly marry her off to an NRI from America, leaving Raghu devastated to the point of a suicide attempt.

The film is based on the novel Pirivom Santhippom by the legendary writer Sujatha.
