A university student (the "letter") discovers an ancient palm-leaf manuscript (the "Aksharaya") that, when read aloud, summons a vengeful spirit made of embers. The spirit cannot be destroyed; it writes a "fiery letter" on the skin of anyone who tries to escape, burning the victim's caste mark into their flesh.
